The biggest issues in American feminism today exists within the idea of sexual freedom. As feminist ideologies have changed so have the definitions of sexual freedom. The book Sisterhood Interrupted outlines the radical views from the total rejection of beauty ideals to girls gone wild. Women today have failed to come to agreement on what it means to be free and have power over their bodies without objectifying themselves. This has led to misconceptions of feminism today and resulted in many young women avoiding identifying as a “feminist.” However, with a strong historical and theoretical understanding of the women’s rights movement, many women have been able to push forward and educate others in major women’s issues today such as reproductive rights, body image, and women in the workplace and politics. This has resulted in campaigns aimed at stopping the objectification of women in the media as well as awareness of how women are portrayed in politics and important positions in the workforce (Wilcox & Laird, 2000).
Today's fight for women's equality in America is still as important as ever. Women and young girls focus so much on their bodies and being perceived as beautiful to men that they limit themselves as they are left with little self-worth. We are surrounded by images and advertisements every day telling us we are not good enough. So if everyone around us is saying we aren't good enough because of the way we look, why would young girls aspire to be anything other than the "ideal image"?
Today, women need to be aware of the objectification of women that surrounds us and work to educate young girls and teens about healthy body image. Our young girls need to know they are worth more than photoshopped ads tell them (Siegel, 2007).
As study of young women looking at typical images of slender women as seen thousands of times in our society each day, revealed as expected significantly lower body and self-esteem issues (Wilcox & Laird, 2000).
Women need to push for higher positions and equal pay, especially in careers that are dominated by females and therefore have lower average salaries (Levy, 2005).
Women need to have control of their bodies in every aspect. Men should not be making laws and decisions about the choices women make over their bodies.

“You may not agree with a woman, but to criticize her appearance — as opposed to her ideas or actions — isn’t doing anyone any favors, least of all you. Insulting a woman’s looks when they have nothing to do with the issue at hand implies a lack of comprehension on your part, an inability to engage in high-level thinking. You may think she’s ugly, but everyone else thinks you’re an idiot.” -Hilary Clinton

Most of all, women in America need to fight for women all over the world. Although the issue above are what feminists in America are mostly concerned with, we need to fight for women all over the globe, especially those who are still looking for the basic rights we earned in the U.S. almost 100 years ago.
Because in the end, women of different ethnicities, races, and backgrounds are still women, aren't they?
